The new ips system for MOCOM on delivery

ips underwater pelletizing system now with a throughput of up to 6,000 kg/h

Niedernberg, 18.12.2023. ips Intelligent Pelletizing Solutions GmbH & Co. KG has launched another model of its underwater pelletizing system (UWG) with a throughput of up to 6,000 kg/h. The first of these large-scale systems has now been delivered to MOCOM.

MOCOM, based in Hamburg, is a global compounder of thermoplastic polymers. The company has been offering the plastics processing industry a comprehensive product range of highperformance plastics, innovative material specialities and customised compounding and recycling solutions for over 50 years. The topic of sustainability has occupied MOCOM since its beginnings and is a strategic pillar of the company.

MOCOM and ips have been working together successfully for over 10 years. With the ips-UWG 200 S, MOCOM is now using the first underwater pelletising system. In future, it will be used to produce mineral-filled polycarbonate, particularly for the automotive industry. It was important to the compounder that the system achieves a throughput of four tonnes per hour.

To this end, ips has equipped its underwater pelletizing systems, which are already successfully used in the market, with a more powerful drive motor for the pelletizer, installed a larger die plate with a pitch circle diameter of 200 mm and reinforced the machine base frame for the pelletizer's swivel system. "With these measures, we were able to maintain our unique machine design for our three sizes ips-UWG 75 S, ips-UWG 120 S and ips-UWG 200 S," says ips Managing Director Simon Weis.

"We have been impressed by the reliable machine technology from ips for many years. We were therefore able to gain a comprehensive impression of the performance of the UWG in the ips technical centre before we ordered it. All ips systems are robust and even easier to operate thanks to the new visualisation of the user interface using special ips icons," explains Axel Eggers, Director Engineering at MOCOM. "In addition, the ips systems fulfil our high safety requirements - especially with regard to process monitoring."

Like its smaller sisters ips-UWG 75 S and ips-UWG 120 S, the ips-UWG 200 S is particularly suitable for the production of spherical thermoplastic pellets in raw material production, the masterbatch and compounding industry as well as for recycling systems. "Thanks to their modular design, our systems can be customised to meet the specific applications and requirements of our customers, from individual parts to complete solutions," says Simon Weis, ips Managing Director.
