ips Intelligent Pelletizing Solutions GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its product range with the addition of underwater pelletizing systems (UWG-S). With types ips-UWG 75 S and ips-UWG 120 S the manufacturer of pelletizing systems and components is now also offering systems for the underwater pelletizing of all thermoplastic polymers. Together with the existing portfolio of strand pelletizing systems they take ips into the sphere of worldwide manufacturers of pelletizing systems who offer both process technologies.
ips has spent over 30 months developing and testing the new underwater pelletizing system to get it ready for series production. The ips-UWG-S is suitable for the production of spherical pellets of thermoplastic materials for use in the raw materials manufacture, masterbatch and compounding industries, and for recycling applications.
The underwater pelletizing system type ips-UWG 75 S is available at the ips technical centre for customer demonstrations and trials. The throughput ranges from approx. 100 kg/h to 720 kg/h, depending on application and pellet dimensions. The larger model, ips-UWG 120 S, offers a maximum throughput of 2,500 kg/h with top pellet quality.
ips not only offers the actual pelletizing unit, but also a complete pelletizing system, consisting of melt pump, screen changer, polymer diverter valve, die plate with pelletizing unit, process water system and pellet dryer. With the ergonomic ips operating system, the complete system is controlled by means of a graphic touch-user interface. Automatic start-up and shutdown are also possible by means of single button operation.
The melt pump, screen changer and the polymer diverter valve are manufactured by Trendelkamp Technologie GmbH. The close cooperation between ips and Trendelkamp is ideal for designing the best possible solutions for each individual pelletizing task.
Further characteristics of the underwater pelletizing systems type ips-UWG-S, which ensure simple operation and high process safety, include:
- Simple, manual single-hand locking system of the cutting chamber with additional automatic locking and safety monitoring
- Simple change of the cutter hub
- The pelletizing unit with swivelling system offers the best possible accessibility for operation and maintenance of the system
- The pelletizing unit is located on a moveable machine base frame; this design offer optimum accessibility underneath the polymer diverter valve
- New automatic pressure adjustment of the knives
- Process monitoring with automatic shutdown
- Wear indication of the knives and display torque pelletizer drive

An application and customer-specific arrangement of the complete system is possible at any time due to the modular design of the pelletizing system.
